A man and woman were in bed late one night when the wife suddenly heard a loud noise in the house. Afraid that there might be an intruder in the house she asked her husband if he was awake. He said "No".... This metaphor doesn't translate well in matters of enlightenment. Probably because it's not referring to matters of enlightenment.

Probably because it's not referring to matters of enlightenment. Yeah, probably, but my point is that if there is no waking, there is no sleep, and vice versa. Truly, no waking and no sleep. Okay, you're attached to some knowing. Just because I related a story though doesn’t mean that it's referring to some conceptual truth.

That's how it works, anyway. But if you can show me that you can wake up from something in particular and that is called waking up, feel free to do so. You related a story, that is a 'conceptual truth' in its way. There's a reason you posted it. What is it? No one can show you. Get over it.

They make it easy for him because folks are already pretending they are asleep. So he is quite willing to accommodate them and make quite a lucrative living from it.

That's right, but are you aware that that's what the whole field in spirituality does, from the lowliest scamster to the most revered teacher? Do you understand that if there is nobody asleep, then there is noone awake and that there is absolutely nothing there, literally nothing to hope for regarding 'knowing' in spirituality? That's why I talk about the sincerity of 'not knowing' rather than than the knowing that comes from Phil's-osophy, logic and conceptual folly.

That's why I talk about the sincerity of 'not knowing' rather than than the knowing that comes from Phil's-osophy, logic and conceptual folly. First of all, you write posts as if you know stuff about non-duality. So you can't very convincingly say that 'not knowing' is of the largest merit. Second, this isn't about philosophy, from my part at least. Neither logic. I don't know what you mean by folly, but I suspect it isn't about that either. It's first of all about personal experience, and observation. I just saw the thing we are all looking for for what it is. A chimera, heavily dependent on context. When you go to your local super market, you know and expect that you will probably find milk there, and you also know that they will almost certainly won't be selling cars there. Now, if you purport that you don't really know if there are cars being sold in any super market, and you go around searching in each one, purporting that you are sincere in your not-knowing, you are not sincere, you are just wasting your time. So do you know where all those extraneous thoughts came from? Or what they are made of? Sincerely I don't know...hehe

No one can show you. Get over it. Show me what, dude? Theo: if you can show me that you can wake up from something in particular and that is called waking up, feel free to do so.

If most are 'pretending to be asleep', then everybody is awake. You have some interesting but familiar logic that has you concluding that therefore nobody is awake. As such, finding a teacher who's no longer pretending might possibly dissolve the pretense.

You see your own conceptual folly, and you suspect the way out is to not know. You're having difficulty with that for reasons that we can discuss separately (by proxy, of course). More generally, you're angry and looking for somebody to blame without revealing to yourself that you are angry. That's a seriously tricky one.

The whole point is not to get conned by the fake spiritual teachers. But rather to expand your perception and therefore experience of what's actually happening in Life. Don't give anyone permission to determine how you should feel. The Aristocracy did that at the Spiritual Teachers forum, by creating an unconscious, intolerant, and angry mob. (Completely unconsciously of course, even to this day) And we can see how well that's worked out...
