Sincerity is everything when it comes to the discussions on these forums, to Truth-talk in general. Absent a genuine, and sincere interest in getting to the Truth, we have all shades of new agey sorts of musings going on.....deep dives into minding, masquerading as a quest for Truth.

perfect example below...

ST used to be a venue where Truth-talk was the main interest, but now it seems New Age talk/self help/psychology and science, oddly, has taken over.

Reefs: Yes, sorta. Predisposition implies something fixed, from birth, like your humor or temperament which translates into very general but characteristic behavior and thinking patters for each type. Conditioning, on the other hand, is something fluid, something acquired after birth and therefore subject to change.

Anyway, this is thread to talk about what true sincerity is when it comes to seeking for Truth....I think it's an important point and thus, deserves it's own thread.

Reefs: Yes. Those are just ways of trying to make sense of what ultimately cannot make sense in its totality. Nevertheless, we do have a mind and the ability to think and form theories about what-is and I quite enjoy pushing the boundaries on how far one can go with these theories. It's fun to explore the limits of conceptual thinking, to me it's more like a game. Some theories are actually really good, like LOA, they allow you to cover an enormous amount of conceptual territory and can explain almost anything in an intellectually satisfying and logically congruent way, some others are more limited, like the olas, where you have a lot of loose ends, both conceptually and logically. Bottom line: thinking doesn't have to be a burden. Thinking can be fun and enjoyable like any other activity. The same way that there is flow in sports, there can also be flow in thinking. Correct thinking is a skill like any other and can be trained and enjoyed like any other skill. Just don't lose sight of the big picture.

And spending way more time talking about those theories....spinning those conceptual stories that attempt to explain that which you say is known to ultimately defy such, does seem to indicate a loss of sight of 'the big picture.'

Reefs-of-yesteryear used to be only interested in the Truth, but now seems to have fallen back asleep and conceptual stories/theories seem to have replaced "big picture" seeing.

Just because LOA seemingly covers all grounds and explains things in a way that satisfies mind, does not equal it being Truth.

"Sincerity" is not in the hands of a person. It's either here, or it's not.

There is no choosing whether or not to BE sincere. Only the presence of actual interest/honesty/earnestness will do.

Now you're doing the Jeff Foster, Brown-bear thing...denying the relative...denying appearance. Not necessary.

Relief is a facet of experience...and the Satchi character being relieved, is an appearance within that....no need to deny such. To acknowledge the arising of relief, but then to deny that there's an experienced me character who feels relief, is to mix contexts...deny the relative.

No that's what you are doing otherwise you wouldn't have said that I'm referring to you as the personal when I refer to appearances appearing to you. But in your reply here you're telling a different story. There's no need to deny the relative you say. Okay. So tell me who these appearances are appearing to.

They're not appearing to the story they are appearing to you. Why are you so afraid to say that, that they appear to YOU.
