The thought free state of samadhi is devoid of experience and is peace/bliss in its purest state. Why would one not be attracted to it. But that is my natural state even when there is thinking. Yes, ZD has made it very clear throughout the years just how proud of himself he is that he can cease thinking at will and that his mind is far more quiet than that of 'most others.' He's turned quietude into a competitive sport and it appeared to me as though you were jumping aboard his team there. yes...no?? I'll say it again; Mind is not the enemy. Thoughts are not problematic so long as they are seen for what they are. Sometimes a conscious choice to become quiet, to focus upon Being, to actively disengage from thought can be conducive to seeing that what I am is the ground to which thought appears. But once that has been clearly seen and there is establishment in/as that ground, there is no longer any reason to actively eschew thought or to favor the absence of thinking over the presence of thought. The point is that if there is a doer, a thinker, that ceases thinking or establishes a ground of being, it is being witnessed by Self. There is no one doing or not doing the Self, you are the Self.

There isn't. It just looks that way. Not if you stay as Awareness. There only appears to be a something that does stuff. The idea of 'staying as awareness' while stuff appears to 'get done,' and then declaring awareness as a doer, is mistaking a pointer for a 'something.'

Why exactly would you choose to stop thinking? is thought sometimes a problem for you? Why do some people choose to go canoeing? Do they have a problem with dry land? That's always been my conclusion.

In the context you are using that term, the Absolute is not 'a realm.' All 'realms' then, are appearance only.
This very aptly though demonstrates the crux of the argument; Folks conceptualizing what can only be realized.

Fwiw, posts indicating that true freedom hinges upon complete/total liberation 'from the world of appearance,' are not 'postings dealing with insignificant differences of opinion.'
On one hand you seem to revere the stories of Zen Masters whacking the erroneous ideas of seekers down with a stick, the moment they arise, but when it comes to forum discussion, you suddenly lose your taste for the Zen stick...well, that is....unless you are the one wielding it, of course.

Any arrival at any answer to that question necessarily means mind is involved. If actual 'realization' is involved, that means 'beyond mind,' thus, it means the very question itself, gets seen as misconceived. Except 'why are you here' is existential and this question is not.

It's really not so incredible at all; The conversations are the same because the very same delusions are always in play for the seeker, and those who are awake are always pointing to the same thingless thing, beyond the story that for the seeker, still grips him tightly.
The squabbles happen because the ones who are still within the grip of the story, have fear as the basis for not letting go. And that's a very powerful sort of 'glue.' The seeker says he wants freedom, but is unwilling to give up the relative comforts of his jail cell. And those who have tasted the freedom beyond the jail cell, know that those relative comforts are but a pale shade of the Peace inherent in the absence of suffering. Thus, regardless of how tired their arm gets, they keep pointing.
The key is to try to look beyond the squabbles to what's actually going on.
