Hi Everyone Lately I have been having some anxiety over eternity. As in how is never ends and all. I do realise that our minds cannot grasp the concept of eternity and the way we look at time is in a non linear way. But it still freaks me out and I would I will be bored or afraid forever. I also know the possible reason behind this fear is that our brain tries to jump to eternity and when we realise we cannot this causes the fear. It is really a fear of the unknown. Does anyone have any tips on how to handle this fear. It would really be appreciated. I also know people have gotten over this fear showing that like any other fear this is irrational. The part I find scary is the neverending part of it.
Also I would like to know why everyone else does not fear the never ending part of this. I think the fact that so few people do shows that it is not really a scary concept just something I cannot understand and have made scary.

Many physicists say that time doesn't actually exist. Time is created by the mind. The true meaning of Eternity is to be totally present which is outside of space and time and therefore eternal. Eternity is this moment now. To be established in the Eternal now is freedom. It's nothing to fear. Quite the contrary.

What you are describing really is 'fear of the unknown.' The concept of eternity really is not graspable by mind...it is a word used to describe that which can only really be grasped via 'realization'...the word 'eternity' then, is really just a pointer, which means it cannot be apprehended via mind/thought. It sounds as though you do get all that, but are still finding yourself wanting to wrestle the 'idea' of 'eternity' down into a concept that you can digest, and in a way that allows you to feel peaceful about it...? All I can say, is that To realize the eternal, is not a conceptual knowing. It's really about the suspension of all knowledge and the resting in Being. In a moment unencumbered by thought, purely focused upon your sense of being, sense of existence, you are far, far closer to grasping what is meant by 'eternity' than in any given moment of thought 'about' eternity. The thought you are thinking when you focus upon 'the idea' of eternity, that leaves you feeling frightened, is not what is actually being referenced.

Hi Figgles. The part that scares me is thought of never ending. Although I guess with what Satchitananda saidd time is not linear so there is no end or beginning

The monster succeeds in his job in one of two ways. One way, is that if it scares the peep right out of you, and that's what's meant by "dying before you die". The other way is the complete opposite, in that the illusion of personhood moves toward a grasping at afterlife theories like reincarnation, in a sort of self-sustaining dynamic toward self-preservation.

Hi Figgles. The part that scares me is thought of never ending. Although I guess with what Satchitananda saidd time is not linear so there is no end or beginning Yeah...important to see that no thought or idea, is 'Truth.' Thus, any thought that you entertain or engage with, that leaves you feeling frightened, is just mind's shenangigans, at work. "Eternity" when spoken about in spiritual teachings, is a pointer and not an idea/concept meant to be grasped mentally. When mind tries to wrestle down pointers to understand them conceptually, you're always barking up the wrong tree. The arising of fear is just further evidence of that.
