Sifty, just my two cents here; You'd do far better selling yourself as a self-help teacher/coach than an Advaita guru/teacher.
It's generally the case that observing/looking AT attachments....trying to ferret out identifications....need-based, separation based beliefs and desires, being conscious at to mind's content, movement and machinations, does indeed correlate highly with a relative, greater sense of ease/peace. In the absence of SR/liberation, that's pretty darned good. Next best thing for sure.
This is really what you are teaching seekers. To promise awakening/SR as though it were some pot of gold/reward at the end of that seeking/practice/spiritual process rainbow is disingenuous imo....that said, I don't think you're aware that there really is no guaranteed path to SR, so you are very likely operating innocently and in what you belief to be good faith/good conscience as you try to help folks wake up.
There's a reason Nonduality/Advaita books/teachings are generally not "how to" based....if the one writing the material is actually awake, it is only too clear that there are no guaranteed causal paths.

Adyashanti invites you to slide over into the passenger's seat and stop trying to steer life in the direction of imagined happiness. This profound and transformative satsang makes the alternatives starkly clear: suffer, or surrender and fully enjoy life's incredible journey.
Sifty...you are confused as to what constitutes 'surrender.' Adya describes it very well...it really IS the absence of mind's grasping towards anything at all...

Precisely.
Well said. That idea that the world must be ignored in what's behind the whole "brown-bear" dealy...the appearing world was never the problem...mistaking it to have it's own, inherent, separate existence, IS.

So what? There are two of 'you'? The body/mind, experiential person, is the domain of 'ignoring' or 'deliberate attending to.' Abiding Awareness is not 'an ignorer....a doer....it is not 'experienced,' but rather, all experience arises within/to Awareness. You are now assigning "ignoring" ability directly to that which defies all quality/property. Obviously, if a call is picked up, there was an experiential registering of a phone ringing and an experiential impulse to pick it up. To deny any of that experiential content, is to take the stance of the brown bear...denying appearance for the purpose of trying to adopt a position of safety from suffering, in trying to disengage from the world of appearance.

Agreed. Nice term there...not sure what I would have used, but that works!
Mind talk that is informed via Self realization is quite a different thing that mind talk that has imagined separation at it's crux.
Which attests to the fact that minding/thinking/self-talk itself is NOT a problem that needs to be solved....erroneous ideation in general, that has it's basis in separation....limitation...a surety of being an existent, bounded, limited person, that's what needs to be addressed...and that's what IS addressed/seen through in SR. It has no basis upon which to arise once the SVP is no longer in play.

Only a temporary 'fix' though, as I'm sure you know...ultimately, the world keeps appearing, so long as there is experience.
There is no need to turn away from the world to be liberated from it.
But as an initial exploration for the seeker, sure, turning away from all that appears, including mind-talk, to look at what remains, quite important. Also important to note though, where there is sincerity to the seeking, that will happen naturally...no need to set up/plan a practice.

Where there is true, sincere interest in what lies prior to/beyond mind, in quieting mind, in attending to one aspect of experience even, over another, plain and simply, that's gonna happen. Highest interest always, ultimately is what plays out in terms of intent and action/follow-through/arising behavior.
Is it even correct to call mediation then, "a practice"? I don't think so.
And where there is not a sincere interest in mediation itself, for the simply sake of 'imminent meditation,' what we're dealing with then, is split-mind, an SVP who thinks he's gonna get somewhere he is currently not, by meditating.
I have nothing against that other than it's a lie to tell folks that meditation causes SR.
The highest correlate to SR is a true, sincere, honest interest....an absence of fear of losing sacred ideas...an absence of having beliefs challenged and perhaps annihilated.
Anyone who has an aversion to having their spiritual ideas/views challenged, is plain and simply lacking that sincerity, true interest towards Truth. It's the most perfect litmus test there IS when it comes to assessing 'readiness/ripeness' for the step off the cliff.

This is a complete and utter nonsense. You are prescribing a reification of the separate, volitional person, expecting that that will cause/result in a shift in seeing that reveals there is none. This goes far beyond 'using a thorn to remove one.' You are telling seekers to engage the sense of separate doership/the SVP to turn away from the SVP...all that does is reify the SVP. At best, we then have an even stronger sense of being a separate, volitional person, but now with the spiritual ego full-out identifying with/as "a person who is liberated." Some of those even go on to believe they are then, as an "enlightened PERSON" destined to be teachers of Nonduality....ordained to instruct others using his own 'sure-fire-causal-path' to SR/awakening.

Or, just creates new ones...namely, an attachment to adopting a position as one who can practice his way out of being an SVP ...who can practice way in sage-hood. It's a pipe-dream....and you are selling the sweetest of tobacco in your promise to a sure-fire means to freedom. Mind's attachments weaken when there's a true and genuine weakening of interest there. Interests are not in the hands of the person, no matter how vehemently you insist that they are....or more aptly, how much you 'want to believe,' they are.
