That's neat that now that you feel you've a handle on who Jed really is, you feel differently about him... I guess your belief that he is Bill Hicks, leads greater understanding of some of the stuff you criticized in the past...?Sure, I'd be very interested. I find myself really loving some of what he says and how he says it, but turning my nose up at other stuff...so I really am kinda on the fence when it comes to the material.Oh yes, since I consider Jed McKenna to be Bill Hicks, I can forgive/forget all those passages in the books in which I earlier "detected" (spiritual) ego, arrogance and narcissism in the way the Jed McKenna character was behaving/talking/expressing himself. But with the concept/idea/belief in mind that he is Bill Hicks it all makes perfect sense now. What means that I consider Bill Hicks to have the right, the accurate position in the great theme of things, the confirmed authority to talk/behave/express himself like that. My former question basically was, "well, Jed McKenna, who do you think you are?!" And then, one time, day by day, slowly bit by bit, I was shown who the Jed McKenna character and author really is. Before I had that...äh...revelation, I wasn't a complete fan-girl (devotee) of Jed McKenna and even have been so bold to bla-bla-bla about my unimportant opinion about him in some public places. Now I'm embarrassed by MY arrogant ego-driven ignorance and appollogize for that. Actually I beg for forgiveness for it. Oh Lord, please forgive me my sins.... It's like in the song, "nobody calls Picasso an asshole", kinda thing. If Jed McKenna is Bill Hicks, which I'm pretty sure about, then Bill Hicks isn't just a genius stand-up comedian but also a spiritual hero/giant, besides being an awesome cool musician on top of that. That deserves my utter respect and devotion and I have an amulett with his picture in it and his (Bill Hicks) picture is hanging in my livingroom together with pictures of other saintly sages. So...yeah...I'm a complete devotee and it feels goooood! I would be interested in hearing about what kind of stuff (material) regarding the Jed McKenna books you have issues with, Figgles. Care to elaborate? What are the parts/passages in the books you don't agree with or find upsetting/disturbing?

But with the concept/idea/belief in mind that he is Bill Hicks it all makes perfect sense now. What means that I consider Bill Hicks to have the right, the accurate position in the great theme of things, the confirmed authority to talk/behave/express himself like that. I see. yes, that makes sense. I wouldn't sweat it. The hidden identity, by its very nature is generally going to result in a more critical assessment imo. When one writes a book about what it means to be enlightened, but chooses to hide his identity from his readers, I would say that itself is evidence that he was expecting a critical audience....perhaps even, his decision to keep his identity hidden was a means of avoiding the brunt of that, to some degree. Sure. Well, for starters, the very fact of keeping his authorship/identity a secret. If one is truly NOT identified with/as a limited person/self, why wouldn't he just go ahead and reveal himself? Seems to me that it is only when one deems his personal self in need of 'protecting' in some way, that he would feel the need to remain anonymous. His stance of "I don't do Love," also stood out. AS I see it, if 'heart' does not open, you've not got far enough. In particular, the scene he describes in one of the earlier books of meeting with his sister, and barely being able to tolerate the interaction with her, as he describes a complete absence of sense of kinship or bondedness with her. It's an odd brand of 'enlightenment' that results in being less compassionate, less loving than you were previously. It seems that Jed's realization of Truth resulted in the falling away of not just attachment/identification with all his stories and the characters appearing in them, but also, any sense of relationship at all, with those characters. The more 'light' we let in, the better relationships with others get. To lose all sense of caring about the characters in your story, as I see it, is indication of being deeply entrenched in the seeing that "there is no mountain."...which is good to see, but not a place you wanna get stuck. To go further, deeper, is to see that while there is fundamentally no mountain, mountains DO appear in experience, and to go deeper yet, is to fall deeply in love with the very fact that stuff appears. From that position, it's hard to find someone appearing in your story, never mind an actual sibling whom you have a history with, that you don't feel an emotional, heart-based tie with. In short, ability to Love expands in enlightenment, rather than dissipates.

In short, ability to Love expands in enlightenment, rather than dissipates. I'll try to make it as short as possible to adress your points although I could write an essay as a response, or maybe two. Why (what for) does the author Jed McKenna prefer to stay unknown/hidden? I asked this question myself too and when you take into consideration that he is Bill Hicks, it becomes perfectely clear and logical: He is dead. He can't come out and proclaim, "Hey! I'm Bill Hicks! I faked my death because I was running out of options as a warrior and now I'm a writer of spiritual books claiming to be enlightend. Ask me anything, dudes." So IF Jed McKenna is Bill Hicks, it makes sense and is perfectely logical that he don't want to be known publically. One might want to ask, "why not? Why not admitting he faked his death?" And the answer is: Because the one who really, really wants to know who Jed McKenna is, by inquiring hard enough for the right reasons, will figure it out in the end. That's what truth seeking is about. When Jed McKenna says, "I don't do heat", he means that he does not care for those who look for love or being loved by some sort of guru/teacher/saint/sage figure. He is looking for those who already ARE lovers. It means, "if you need/want/desire love, stay away from me! I don't do love! I don't care for you if you're needy, seeking in all the wrong places." Jed McKenna (Bill Hicks) frees the ones who already loved too much from the burden of being a lover. That is why he says, "I don't do heart", I assume. If I remember it right, the meeting with his sister is not part of any book. I read it somewhere on the internet but forgot where. He was wearing his "robe" as he met his sister. And I guess that's his robe as some sort of a monk. And monks are usually not too interested in so called worldly affairs "normal" people engage in. That's why they became monks in the first place, I think. I can easily understand the detouched stance he is having towards his sisters life and lifestyle. One can listen to sisters or brothers stuff when they talk about their problems at work or about having trouble with their kids, spouses or friends without pretending to be overly interested in such stuff. These kinds of problems are not what monks deal in. They are regular human problems and there is nothing wrong with having them. But monks don't have such problems. They have completely different problems to deal with than those normal humans have. And by wearing his robe while meeting his sister he, Jed McKenna, is showing that he isn't of the same mind-set like regular people are. And that does not make him any better than anybody else is. It only makes him different. Imagine sex-drugs-rock'n'roll loving Bill Hicks (becomming Jed McKenna) being a monk now. There are many ideas/concepts/explainations about what "enlightenment" might be all about. Your take, Figgles, seem to be that one becomes more loving and more compassionate and Jed McKenna's take is just the opposite. He says in Spiritual Warfare something like this, "a buddha of compassion is an oxymoron". And it means, keeping in mind that I believe that Jed McKenna is Bill Hicks, that one has to become less compassionate and less loving and not more so. Why? Because it does not change a thing to love those who love their prison cells more than truth. They like it like that. They only want bigger cells and better food. That's all. And caring for them, helping them to archive their goals, is wasting ones time and energy with solving minor (basically unimportant) problems. That is his message, I think. Therefore, "I don't do heart." I think third mountain, where mountains are mountains again, is like "being in the world of not off the world". Dispassionately fully engaging in worldly affairs, pretending to be as normal and regular as anybody else while being completely detouched at the same time. Playing a given role as good as possible, knowing it is jsut a role and not more but also not less. "I don't do heart", means: I feel you but that does not make me react to your stuff because I can see/recognize stuff as (mere) stuff. Meet me on the other side. See you there. Untill then: Further."

So, Jed likes wearing a robe and prefers hanging out in the absolute coz he wants to evade being human..... aces. And what does "being human" mean according to you, Ishimaru? So, Jed indeed hangs out in the absolute? Something wrong with that so far?

Oh my goodness.... Just chatted with friends driving to their daughter's college graduation today. Tears of genuine happiness all around. I wouldn't trade that moment for anything. Pure joy at the success of others.
