I used to have some respect for you. Is that loss of respect coincident with his less than stellar opinion of your reading comprehension? Are the two necessarily connected for you? I used to have some respect for you.

Okay, but you, sir, may feel you have exquisite hearing with regard to what 'others' are saying, but your listening skills aren't quite up to par. I say that because I'm listening to what you are trying to say, but it's cloaked by the dead past of your memory intervening, which is really somewhat of a half-assed hearing, which has nothing to do with listening. You should not be the least bit appalled by this, either, because eventually you'll get it. I used to have some respect for you. Good for you. I'm guessing your version of respect was quite thoroughly conceptualized somewhere along the way.

Of course, I used to agree with you. So what subsequently caused you to take a wrong turn on the road? You started speaking from your own understanding instead of just parroting teachers.

So what subsequently caused you to take a wrong turn on the road? You started speaking from your own understanding instead of just parroting teachers. I've always parroted teachers because they have something to teach.

It's easy to parrot, but once folks start using their own words, explaining things beyond the guru quotes and passages they've previously been trotting out, their actual understanding or lack thereof gets revealed.

You started speaking from your own understanding instead of just parroting teachers. I've always parroted teachers because they have something to teach. And when you start explaining what those guru quotes mean, using your own words, you reveal that it is nothing but 'parroting.'
