So, if/when that happens, does the overload of junk food or lack of excercise temporarily obscure the realization of Self...or what? If you were given the greatest machine in the universe, would you give it crappy food, and let it sit around to ossify? If the machine was the means to SR, wouldn't you do your best to take care of it? If people want to eat junk food and sit around, they should at least not feel guilty or depressed about it.(That's how the diet industry makes their billions)
I don't... VERY much agree. If you're gonna eat, enjoy it. I think in this, we may be back to E's 'split mind.' The issue is in wanting to be healthy (and believing that certain foods are not healthy), but still very much also wanting to unhealthy foods. I find the best resolve is to look into the veracity of the beliefs in that case. I have found you can have your cake and eat it too.

Yes, if you 'identify' with it. But the OP is that the person is SR and depressed. So, as soon as you identify with something you are 'not', then some old conditioning is going to appear, like depression, and you will temporarily overlook or forget SR. It's not a problem for the SR, because it only takes a moment to find your way back to what is being overlooked or forgotten. It's kinda like unplugging the cord of an electric fan. Even though the power has been cut, the fan blade continues to slowly spin, until it eventually stops. Ah..okay. That's an interesting topic itself...'identifying with' the likes of junk food. I think i get what you mean....would that be like getting caught up in the whole idea that what I am eating is dammned delicious, too bad it's so bad for me, kinda thing? Well, it's not just junk food, it's anything you continue to identify with. So, for the depressed SR, it's a matter of not being fully established in the attitude towards what is appearing in you.

Okay. Yeah, I'd agree depression = identification (that is fixed and deep.)

What's happening is just the appearance of sequential contradictory thoughts. Of liking something in one moment and disliking it in the next. So yes, you can have your cake and eat it too, if you don't mind whether the thoughts that appear are liking or disliking thoughts.

It can be just a case of one thought in one moment, and another thought in the next moment, but when mind goes to war with itself.....with the whole, oh, I am so bad for wanting this, and I should or should not be doing this, but then I go along with the desire anyway, I do see quite an obvious 'split.' It's the conflict he's referencing there, more than the thoughts (I think...E can correct me if I"m wrong. )

I've already stated one way of dealing with the thoughts, which is to leave them alone, simply be aware of them. They will eventually lose thier momentum. I am sure there are other ways as well.
