Yes, being at peace precludes depression. I would think then, that if someone is Self-Realized, that depression wouldn't be a problem for them. Just the people around them... Do you know the meaning of 'preclude'?

The following convo over on ST caught my attention. (And yes Reefs, it would be fair to say that this forum is a spin off of that one...and that I do use conversations from there over here, to expound upon. Fact is, there are still some conversations over there happening that are of interest to me, and being that you've banned me, I cannot respond to them over there....so, why the heck not bring them over here? ) I would never argue that SR makes on 'inhuman,' but most I think would agree that SR does equal the end of suffering. "Depression" by definition, is a state of emotional suffering and therefore, following SR, I would say that 'depression' per se, is no longer even a possibility. (I may add more later...) Thoughts...? If they are SR and depressed then they are most likely suffering from eating too much junk food, and not getting enough exercise. Another factor could be not spending enough time in nature. So, if/when that happens, does the overload of junk food or lack of excercise temporarily obscure the realization of Self...or what?

I think it goes back to what we mean by SR. yes, exactly. It seems there are several different definitions in play. Depression as I see it, denotes the kind of ongoing, pervasive resistance to life that just would not be compatible with the shift in the way life is seen and experience that follows the realization of Self. Most define it as a permanent shift that does not wax and wane, and that results in the end of suffering. I would equate depression with suffering...as I would any enduring state of emotional discord. Interesting...yes, I can see how that would be the case. I do have reference for the same (shorter periods of time though). Yup. to push against discordant feelings is only going to anchor them deeper....that said, no one imo, is ever gonna 'like' feeling emotional discord.

Peeps can take to heart the sense of individuality again . I felt / understood the nature of suffering as already mentioned . The being-ness of Self to then becoming aware of I am . I wouldn't of thought that a peep would become consumed with depression post S.R. butt one could feel deep sorrow for the suffering of mankind . yeah...I see a difference between emotional discord that arises and then passes on through vs. that which consumes and takes hold. Yeah...that's an interesting convo in & of itself. An empathic expression that has belief in the desired outcome at it's basis, is going to uplift everyone involved....whereas one that is full of the perceived problem, no real belief in solution, just a sense that something is wrong and needs to be fixed, and those energies behind it, is gonna bring everyone down.

Yer, if something takes a firm hold of you, there requires a firm self identification . Nothing wrong with self identification, it's part of the parcel of functioning, butt it's the deep rooted attachment to that which is depressed or for why one is depressed which kinda doesn't reflect S.R. Maybe some might relate the feeling of deep sorrow for depression . I kinda associate depression with a negative trait in reflection of themselves and the world . I don't see being / feeling empathic to others suffering in the same light as that ..

So part of what characterizes it is its enduring nature?

It's always being overlooked or forgotten about.

I would say if one is depressed, 'life' has become a problem for him. One way to look at depression is as the appearance of thoughts, feelings and perceptions arising "IN" you. Being SR why would anything appearing "IN" you be a problem for life?
