Sounds like a way to bolster the minds intellectual Freedom through humor.. Yes, after all it is the ego which becomes enlightened, not awareness which already is. If the question is, can the Ego be enlightened? The answer is, it's the Ego that dies.

"Enlightenment" does refer to the relative, yes, but "awareness", in terms of a pointer, points to the non-relative. To imagine the atrocity of an "enlightened ego" is as self-serving a self-deception as the imagination could ever possibly contrive.

That's just a myth that often gets adopted by nondualist theorists like yourself. You would be quickly dead without an ego. When Buddha was stopped on the road by a passer by and asked who he was, Buddha replied, I am Awake. Who was proclaiming that? It was ego. The only difference between the ego of the unwise and the ego of a sage, is that the sage knows he is not the ego whereas the ignorant identify as ego.

So it's just as well that the enlightened ego isn't about imagination as you are obviously imagining.

Nah, I can't really buy into that, but I think I understand the point you're making. The ten gazillion thingies are myriad indeed, and there do seem to be many existential insights/realizations - even deep ones - that leave ego with a tight grip.

The answer is Yes, because it's not the body that dies, it is who you've been taking yourself to be that dies. That being said, even if the body dies, you'll still be here. You just won't be able to talk about, until you enter a new human form.

I'm not asking you to amputate anything mind you so please don't try this at home.

If the question is, can I die and still be there to witness my death? The answer is no. That 'no' is the reason that you fear your death and in the process temper the fear by retreating into intellectual Freedom.
